Accrington Wildcats U9s Match Report: Latchford Giants Festival (Round 2)

On Sunday, 19th April, our Accrington Wildcats U9s travelled to Latchford Giants for the second round of their four-part festival series. The morning was structured around a high-intensity “festival style” format, featuring three 10-minute games against Orrell St James, Langworthy Reds, and our hosts, Latchford Giants.

The standard of Rugby League throughout the morning was exceptional. Every member of the squad displayed incredible grit and determination, showing that the technical skills and tactical discipline being honed on the training pitch are now being seamlessly translated into their game-day performances. The development across the squad is clear, with the players demonstrating a deeper understanding of the game with every fixture.

Key Highlights & Awards

• Supporters’ Player of the Match: A well-deserved tie between Henry and Mason, both of whom showcased brilliant all-round play and relentless work rate in every game.

• Coaches’ Player of the Match: Awarded to Henry for his outstanding contact work and his ability to organise the team effectively from the field.

• Magic Moment: This went to Mason for a world-class, try-saving tackle—a moment of pure defensive instinct and determination that truly defined the spirit of the day.

Try Scorers The Wildcats showcased some fluid attacking play throughout the festival, with well-earned tries from Myles, Dexter, and Ruben.

Performance Summary The squad’s progress was particularly evident during the first two games, where the intensity and performance levels stepped up a gear. While the team naturally felt the pace in the final 10 minutes of the morning, the commitment from every single player never wavered.

The dedication this group displays week-in, week-out is a credit to the club. With this attitude, we are excited to see the team continue to develop and take even bigger strides forward in Rounds 3 and 4.
