Wildcats Festival Success: A Proud Day for Accrington Rugby
ACCRINGTON, LANCASHIRE β A massive well done to our Accrington Wildcats U9s for a fantastic morning of Rugby League at Wilsons Sports Village. On Sunday 10th May, the club was proud to host its first home game of the season, transforming the village into a hive of activity as we welcomed over 45 young athletes and their families.
The festival saw visiting teams from Latchford, Orrell St James, and Langworthy Reds descend on Accrington for a high-energy morning of sport. This event marked the final round of Group K fixtures before the squad progresses into the next phase of the season. The atmosphere was electric, serving as a brilliant showcase for the strength of grassroots rugby in our town.
Dominant Team Performance
The Wildcats delivered a resilient and determined performance across all fixtures. The team showed clinical attacking prowess, with standout tries recorded by Reuben, Myles, Seb, and Mason. The level of teamwork and defensive structure on display suggests a bright future for this age group as they move into their new group.
Honouring Individual Excellence
While the effort was collective, several players were recognised for their exceptional contributions:
π
Coaches Player of the Match: Henry
Henry demonstrated outstanding work rate throughout the morning. Most impressively, he displayed the true spirit of the game by stepping up to play for the opposition when they were short on numbers, performing excellently in both jerseys.
π Spectators Player of the Match: Seb
Seb was the choice of the sidelines this week, rewarded for his consistently strong running and powerful presence on the field.
π₯ Spartan Award: Mason
The “hit of the day” belonged to Mason. He earned the Spartan Award for a massive tackle that perfectly demonstrated his strength and commitment to the defensive line.
Magic Moments
The game was punctuated by flashes of brilliance that kept the crowd cheering:
β’ Joseph produced a superb offload to keep a critical attacking play alive.
β’ Musa was tireless in his support play, always positioned perfectly to assist his teammates.
Every single player showed an exemplary attitude and worked incredibly hard for one another today. The club is immensely proud of your progress. Well done, boys!
