Wildcats Battle Hard: Terrific Team Effort Against Oldham St Anne’s

ACCRINGTON, LANCASHIRE – The Accrington Wildcats U11s welcomed Oldham St Anne’s to their home ground on Sunday 28th June 2026 for a highly entertaining and hard-fought fixture. Despite facing a very strong, well-drilled opposition, the young Wildcats showed tremendous determination, resilience, and teamwork from the first whistle to the last.

The opening quarter was an intense, physical battle. The Wildcats produced some outstanding defensive work to absorb early pressure. Strong, determined carries and powerful runs helped the team gain valuable metres, but Oldham’s highly organised defensive line prevented the Wildcats from finding an early breakthrough on the scoreboard.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats respond in brilliant fashion. A fantastic, powerful run from Jack drove the team deep into Oldham territory, creating the essential forward momentum for Logan to cross and score the Wildcats’ opening try. This scoring breakthrough saw the team’s confidence grow as they continued to battle hard against a tough Oldham outfit.

The Wildcats kept pushing forward with relentless determination in the second half. Giorgio was rewarded for his tireless work rate with an outstanding four-try performance, crossing the line for four well-earned tries thanks to the team’s excellent attacking support play. Every single player continued to work incredibly hard, breaking through tackles and repeatedly challenging the Oldham defensive line.

Oldham showed why they are such a strong side, capitalising on a number of opportunities and breaking through the Wildcats’ defensive line on several occasions. However, the Accrington players never let their heads drop. They continued to fight hard for every ball, putting together strong attacking sets and showing immense commitment in defence until the final whistle.

There were many great positives to take from the game, including outstanding defensive efforts, strong running from Jack, Logan’s well-taken try, and Giorgio’s magnificent four-try performance. Most importantly, every player gave 100%, supported one another, and displayed fantastic team spirit throughout the match.

Well done to all the Wildcats for their effort, determination, and positive attitude. Keep working hard, and the results will continue to come!
